The last supper

Well, our last day in France was a wet one. For a few moments we thought there may be some half decent weather to come, but no, it wasn't to be.

But we decided none the less to go have a drive, making our way first of all up to Flaine which was covered in clouds and was a horrid concrete jungle. Following a wee crepe in Les Carroz on the way back down, we travelled over to Les Gets for a wander back into town.A couple of hours later, after having a wee drink in the apartment, we made our way out for a really tasty dinner.

By the end of dinner we had a slow wander back, but not before THE PURSE reared it's ugly head again.

And once the bill was paid we had a slow wander back through the town.

Where all we could do was have a quiet drink and get ready for leaving in the morning.

Much ado about nothing

Well, its been a quiet day for the ladies. The young uns went for a wander into town and then a quiet lunch, leaving the ladies wandering around the town having a quiet shop and hunting a plat du jour.

Eventually they managed to sit in the square and not have the daily special but seemed quite happy none the less.

By teatime it was raining in the town and a couple of bottles were opened up to help ease the evenin in. Bob had a good long chat with the ladies and then it was time for the young uns to get out for some dinner. By the time dinner was over and we had everyone back in the flat the auld quines were in bed getting some beauty sleep and hoping that the rain would be done for tomorrow.

Three countries and only a little squid ink

Today started really well in the apartment. Lisa and I went for a wander and bought sone pain au chocolat and croissants. As you can see, our all butter croissants clearly needed more butter.

Despite this however, we did manage to get ourselves on the road and down toward Chamonix. Getting into the Mont Blanc tunnel we spent an age under a mountain before finally popping out in Italy.

From here it was a relatively short trip down the autostrada to Aosta. In town there is a beautiful cobbled area with narrow streets and lots of properly Italian looking shops. When we stopped for meal number two in country number two we decided to get a few things off the menu that we weren't sure about.

This worked out really well apart from with Nancy whos risotto nero really was simply a black risotto. Given the fishy taste Lisa and I thought this was full of squid ink but both thought better of mentioning it before Nancy had finished it.

Afterwards, we drove up over te mountain to our next stop on the border of Italy and Switzerland. By this time the weather was turning and we were in some pretty heavy rain before making our way to Montreaux for meal number three in country number three.

And that was that really. After thinking it was going to clear up we then had a drive through really heavy rain back to the apartment and some high hopes for a sunny day tomorrow.

A quiet day, for the ladies

We woke up today to a lovely sunny day.

And although we left the apartment for about 12pm to get to the market which closes at 1pm, we got there in no time (for the ladies anyway).

After a wander back into town we had a stop off at one of the bars in the main square for a bite to eat. Being a traditional small town there wasn't much open by now because of lunch.

Despite the menu being in French the ladies managed to have a wee crepe and in no time at all I had to make my way north to Geneva again. After losing Pauls company yesterday we gained Lisa today and we managed a quick and safe run back to the apartment where we then got ready for dinner.

It was pizza all round again (no idea what we will eat in Italy tomorrow) apart from my steak tartare which I couldn't convince the auld dears to try.

Have to say it was really tasty...

Anyway, it was a fairly sensible evening and we made it off to bed before it was too late in preparation for tomorrow's trek.

La Suisse

Well, what all happened today... Eventually we all got up and about after having a bit of a long lie in. I had hoped to get us up to Geneva reasonably early today but it wasn't to happen.

Instead we got out just before lunchtime and hit the motorway north, only for me to get a little lost in the city itself. Thankfully I didn't make too much in the way of nervous noises and we got by the lake before we knew it.

So there we were and we had a good time wandering around, enjoyed an hour on a boat going about the western end of the lake and managed a wee swift drink or two.

So far Dr Doolittle hasn't been doing too much in the way of talking to the animals but that's not for the want of the being surrounded by wee birds.

Anyway, after an exciting trip through the Geneva rush hour we ended up going over the route from Lake Geneva into the hills again and had a great drive through the mountains. Stopping off half way we picked up a few wee bottles and some food to be getting on with, couldn't quite get the girls to eat any carpaccio though...

Still, all the more for me.

Something not quite right here

Well, here we are in France for the first full day in country and what to we have for lunch?

Well, I suppose we were only a few miles from Italy at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix.

At least we made up for it in the evening after going to visit Pauls apartment. Paul invested in a fondue set so we ate cheese, cheese and more cheese then a huge creamy strawberry cake.

Thankfully it was a more sane evening with us retiring to bed by midnight as opposed to 3am the previous day, hic.

In the beginning

Well, heres a bit of a change from last years trip around the world on a motorbike.

I've managed to get myself with not just one,

buy two auld ladies,

and we've gone via an easyjet flight to Geneva,

down to the French Alps.

Thankfully the apartment is a nice one.

With some great views.

And I'm sitting with the ladies having a wee drink.

It's a hard life and I'll be off on some wee trips over the next few days. Come back and see where they get to...
